Ready EP By Ruel

Ruel is an up-and-coming artist from Sydney but born in London. Give him a listen and you’d be surprised to find out he is no older than 16 years of age. His debut EP ‘Ready’ was released on 1st June 2018.

The EP starts with a 30 second ‘intro’ which consists of a record message.

Next is ‘Younger’, a song that is certified gold in Australia. Younger opens with a guitar riff, with Ruel singing about a past friendship. The beat and poignant lyrics show why the song has gained so much success, with the music video amassing over 5 million views.

The third track is ‘Dazed and Confused’. Most likely about a love interest, Ruel sings about how someone has walked into his life and made him lose control using phrases such as “you cut my brakes and hit the throttle” and “I can’t even walk in a straight line, under the influence”. The song displays the maturity of his songwriting, considering Ruel would’ve been 15 at the time.

Next up is ‘Not Thinkin’ Bout You’. The song shows Ruel talking about how he’s trying to forget a certain somebody. A catchy chorus, melodic bridge, and falsettos make the song a good, moody listen.

The fifth track is ‘Say’, a slow song that gets you in the feels. Ruel sings about how hard it is to talk, to tell someone about your feelings. Another song which displays his maturity, Ruel shows that you don’t need to struggle by yourself, with a relatable song.

The last song is ‘Don’t Tell Me’, Ruel’s debut single. Written when he was only 12 years old, Don’t Tell Me displays passions and maturity with his songwriting and voice. The song has even earned him praise from Sir Elton John himself, which is very much deserved. Ruel has said the concept of the song was a conversation he had with his parents over dinner about a girl which then spurred the song. The song has beautiful vocals and lyrics about self-assurance.

Give Ruel’s songs a listen and see what you think about them!
